Music Director Receives Award for Outstanding Teaching

Congratulations to John Thomas Dodson, winner of the Ross Newsom Award for Outstanding Teaching at Adrian College.

ASO Music Director and Adrian College Associate Professor John Thomas Dodson was awarded the Ross Newsom Award for Outstanding Teaching on September 16, 2009, at the opening convocation at Adrian College. Dodson was nominated for this award by a fellow faculty member who wrote, “Professor Dodson’s work in the classroom is focused and engaging. Furthermore, the Soup, Salad and Symphony program he runs is intellectually fascinating and fun.”  His students evaluate Dodson’s courses as superb. Most importantly, students note the “transformative nature of his courses on their intellect and personal lives.” As one student wrote, “This class has done so much for me as a musician and as an individual. My performance has improved exponentially, my outlook on life is more positive, my knowledge expanded and my ability to lead have all been greatly influenced.”

The Adrian Symphony Orchestra congratulates Dodson on this prestigious honor.
