Carey Moore
Biography
Carey Moore is a freelance flutist and educator in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a 2008 graduate of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she earned her Master of Music Degree in flute performance with Distinction studying under Robert Willoughby. Carey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Georgia in 2005 where she earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in flute performance studying under Christina Smith and Carl Hall.
She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honour Society and Pi Kappa Lambda Honorary Music Society. She also earned merit scholarships from the Longy School of Music and Kennesaw State University. Carey is also a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow and a Georgia Rotary Student Program Will Watt Fellow.
As an Alumna of the Longy School of Music at Bard College, Carey enjoys collaborating with Mentor Collective and Longy to mentor incoming international students who are beginning their graduate studies. She has been selected as both Mentor of the Month with Mentor Collective as well as being featured in the Longy Alumni Newsletter for her work as a mentor. She is currently the Mentor Ambassador for the Longy School of Music at Bard College.
Carey has performed in Masterclasses for Aralee Dorough, Fenwick Smith, Elizabeth Rowe, Tadeu Coelho and Paul Edmund Davies.
She has performed in the pit orchestra for: Les Miserables, Pippin, Camelot, King and I, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, Sister Act, Once on this Island and The Wiz.
Carey has given solo recitals in Cannon Chapel at Emory University, the Rockdale County Auditorium in Conyers, Georgia and Pickman Hall at the Longy School of Music. In 2007, Moore presented a Lecture Recital series on Music for Unaccompanied Flute to Rotary Clubs in both Massachusetts and Georgia. In 2004, she was selected for the College Band Directors National Association Southeastern Division Intercollegiate Band, and also was selected to perform as Principal Flute with the National Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall.
In 2002, Carey as a freshman placed third in the Kennesaw State University Concerto Competition. She is also an alumnus of the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) of Atlanta. She performed in 2002 at Carnegie Hall with MYSO. As principal flutist, she won the 2003 MYSO Concerto Competition.
As a flute instructor, Carey currently works as a clinician with band programs in the metropolitan Atlanta area. She is also a flute adjudicator for the Georgia Music Educators Association and maintains a private studio both in person and virtual. Carey's students have consistently received positions in District Honor Band and All-State Band, received Superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival, hold the principal chair in their school's advanced band, attended Mid-Fest and Jan-Fest at the University of Georgia and received college scholarships to participate in college band programs. Carey continues to study and perfect her own flute playing with Christina Smith of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Carey is a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 148-462, The Atlanta Flute Club and The National Flute Association.
Carey plays on a Sterling Silver Brannen Flute with a 14K Rose Gold Brannen Headjoint, a Haynes Grendilla Wood Piccolo and a Di Zhao Alto Flute.
