Biography

School: The Lovett School
Instructor: Nick Scholefield

Dominic Dominguez is a 14-year-old with a passion for music, especially the double bass. He began his journey with this instrument in 6th grade, initially drawn to it out of sheer curiosity. While he was familiar with the violin and cello, the double bass was more of a mystery which intrigued him and ultimately led to one of the best decisions of his musical career.

Starting was challenging as he struggled with holding the bow and positioning it on the strings. Playing the double bass requires a lot of strength and endurance, but overcoming those initial hurdles was incredibly rewarding. As he mastered the basics, he felt a newfound sense of balance with his peers which ignited a spark to push beyond being just an average middle school bass player.

With the help of a private teacher, he delved into etudes, solos, and advanced techniques, which prepared him for GMEA All-State, where he earned the position of 6th chair bass, moving up to 3rd chair the following year. Next, he set his sights on the Talent Development Program and was awarded a position. He is continually amazed by his progress and looks forward to continuing to develop his skills.
