Biography

The Reverend Raphael G. Warnock, Ph.D. is the senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. His outreach and activism have addressed such issues as voting rights, poverty, HIV/AIDS and disparities in the criminal justice system.

A sought-after preacher and scholar, Dr. Warnock is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the Society for the Study of Black Religion, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and various other civic and social organizations. He is a graduate of Morehouse College with a degree in psychology. Dr. Warnock also holds Master of Divinity, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Union Theological Seminary.

He is the author of The Divided Mind of the Black Church; Theology, Piety & Public Witness (NYU Press), A Way Out of No Way: A Memoir of Truth, Transformation, and the New American Story. (Penguin Random House) and Put Your Shoes On & Get Ready! (Penguin Random House).

In January 2021, Dr. Warnock became Georgia's first Black senator and the first Black Democrat to represent a southern state in the Senate.
