Biography

James Nelson joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in August 2024 as the Assistant Librarian. Previously, he was the library fellow at the New World Symphony and has worked in the libraries of the National Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Fe Opera, and the San Francisco Opera. Additionally, he is the critical editor for the upcoming edition of Michael Tilson Thomas’ The Diary of Anne Frank. James has similarly served as an editor for the premiere of John Adams’ Antony and Cleopatra.

Originally from San Diego, James holds degrees in Viola Performance from The San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Boston Conservatory, where he studied with Jonathan Vinocour and Rictor Noren. In his free time, James is an avid astronomer and astrophotographer, and loves to watch the San Diego Padres.
