Biography

Mateo Wojtczack is a composer and cellist from Long Island, New York. His music is often described as playful, inquisitive, and whimsical. His current work emphasizes introspective narratives based on interactions with outdoor environments and historical sites. His acoustic and electronic works have been selected for performance throughout the US and internationally at prestigious events including SPLICE Institute, Operation Opera, Tennessee Valley Music Festival, Art Song Lab, and Society of Composers Inc. Conferences. Recent highlights include a premiere with the UGA Wind Ensemble, participation in Really Spicy Opera's Aria Institute (Sci-Fi Brunch Edition), and premieres at the Valencia International Performance Academy (Valencia, Spain) and the International Composition Institute of Thailand (Bangkok, Thailand).
 
Mateo is a founder of SonAlt Arts Organization, whose mission is to empower emerging musicians through classical and contemporary music-making that promote cultural exchange with Latin America. Earlier this year, he was selected as a Sphinx Fellow to represent SonAlt Arts at SphinxConnect 2025.

Mateo holds degrees in music composition from Bowling Green State University (MM) and the State University of New York at Fredonia (BM). While at BGSU, he held positions in music theory/aural skills as a teaching assistant and adjunct instructor. Mateo is currently a DMA candidate at the University of Georgia, where he holds an interdisciplinary arts research assistantship.
