Osiris A. Sanchez is a freshman at North Gwinnett High School currently taking advantage of every opportunity to play music through his school’s Chamber Orchestra, Advanced Band, and Jazz Ensembles. Osiris has a deep love of music and is a multi-instrumentalist who relishes playing all types of instruments as well as composing music. Osiris’ primary instrument is the Bassoon which he picked up in the 7th grade because he loved the sound and range, but he also knew that most bands need bassoonists! As a TDP fellow, he currently studies under the acting principal bassoonist of the ASO, Anthony Georgeson.
Osiris started playing music in the 6th grade and thanks to his music teachers he found the double bass and bassoon which have become his primary passions. In the 7th grade, he was selected to play with Gwinnett County’s Kendall Youth Orchestra. In the 8th grade, Osiris was selected to participate in the GMEA All-State Middle School Orchestra. In the 9th grade, he was again selected for the GMEA All-State String 9/10 Orchestra and was invited to the District XIII Honor Band. Osiris is currently a member of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra where he’s played both Bassoon and the Double Bass.
When he’s not focused on music, Osiris is working on other artistic pursuits including painting, animation, film production, and writing. He is a current member of the NGHS Young Author’s Club. In 2022, his animated short, “Musical Passion,” won first place for 7th-grade film in the National PTA Reflections Contest, and his short animated film, “Sound,” which featured his own musical score won best editing and score in the 2023 Student Film Festival hosted by the Gwinnett County Public Library. He’s currently put filmmaking on pause to focus on the bassoon as he hopes to one day join a major orchestra and teach music.
