The young musicians in our Talent Development Program get a few opportunities to shine during the school year and the next one is our Musicale! This annual free recital program is coming up on Sat, Nov. 16 at 3pm at Symphony Hall. Be ready to be dazzled by these students on the rise! The Talent Development Program is a program that helps identify and develop middle and high school musicians of African American and Latine heritage in Atlanta. Our new Associate Principal Horn Andrew Burhans (@burhandrew) sat down to talk about his audition, favorite composers, and plenty more. He told us that the work that he was looking most forward to playing this season was John Adams' Doctor Atomic Symphony and just did an amazing job a few days ago playing that horn part that he mentioned! Prior to joining the orchestra as our new Associate Principal Horn, Andrew was in his junior year of studying horn performance at Rice University in Houston, where he performed frequently with the Houston Symphony. Originally from Portage, Michigan, Andrew graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy. Aside from musical interests, Andrew recently adopted a cat and enjoys swimming, hiking, fishing, cooking, and traveling. #atlantasymphonyorchestra #orchestra #newmusician #q&a #interview

Lauren Roth began playing violin on her 3rd birthday, and her musical journey has since brought her to us in her new role as Assistant Concertmaster! She's from Seattle, though she just moved here from Arizona where she served as Concertmaster of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and as a professor at the University of Arizona. When she’s not playing the violin, she enjoys practicing yoga and playing tennis.
